First Copy 2025 Web Series Review
“First Copy” follows Arif (Munawar Faruqui), a young man running a small video parlor who rises to become the mastermind of Mumbai’s largest film piracy network. Driven by his yearning for love, respect, and wealth, Arif finds himself ensnared in a dangerous world with no easy way out.
Munawar Faruqui proves he’s more than a comedian, delivering a compelling performance filled with pain, anger, and unease. Saqib Ayyub shines as a determined cop, while Krystle D’Souza and Ashi Singh add emotional weight to their roles. Gulshan Grover returns as a restrained yet menacing villain, showcasing a refreshing subtlety. Meiyang Chang and Inaamulhaq also make solid contributions to the narrative.
The film vividly recreates 1990s Mumbai, with authentic locations, narrow alleys, vintage cinema halls, and gritty VCD piracy dens. Lawrence D’Cunha’s cinematography is effective, though the editing and background score occasionally veer into melodrama. The story loses momentum mid-way, with repetitive scenes and stretched drama, and some characters feel underdeveloped.
