Mistry S01 Web Series Review
“Mistry, a crime-comedy and the official Hindi remake of the hit American series Monk, stars Ram Kapoor in the lead role, delivering a stellar performance as the obsessive-compulsive detective Armaan Mistry. Portraying OCD convincingly on screen is no small feat, and the credit goes to both the sharp writing and Ram’s nuanced acting. His character is perpetually unsettled by the world’s imperfections—distracted by misaligned window blinds during a health discussion or fixating on a potential gas leak while a murder victim lies nearby. Ram captures Mistry’s unease with finesse, making his orderly home—with meticulously folded ties and evenly spaced shirts—a vivid reflection of his psyche. By the series’ end, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role.
Mona Singh shines as a cop, bringing depth to a familiar archetype. She ensures her character stands out, not overshadowed by the uniform, with a subtle nod to Laal Singh Chadha adding charm. Shikha Talsania, initially appearing as Mistry’s supportive aide, gradually reveals layers, evolving into a standout character who leaves a lasting impression.
Director Rishab Seth deserves praise for Mistry’s clever execution. Conveying emotional depth in a crime-comedy is challenging, yet Seth succeeds. A standout moment is Mistry’s first case, a politically charged double murder. During a briefing, his OCD compels him to rearrange scattered pins on a whiteboard by color and size, showcasing his inner turmoil amidst chaos. The series balances humor, heart, and mystery with finesse, making it a compelling watch.”
